Background Realizing the power of mobile, hand-held applications in the healthcare industry, Eric McDonald initiated the DocuTAP software concept in 1999. He worked directly with physicians for two years, in their own clinical environment, to design and develop DocuTAP software. Eric remains CEO of the company, which has grown to over 20 developers, support, training, and customer service personnel. DocuTAP’s initial focus mainly on urgent care electronic medical records and workflow management; but soon discovered the need to integrate all working functions into a reliable, user friendly, and patient centered software program. With the valuable wireless component, DocuTAP quickly rose above other software systems to become a leader in the urgent care industry. Business Challenge Demand for DocuTAP’s software grew very quickly once DocuTAP applied its expertise in electronic medical records to the Practice Management market. In addition to transforming physician offices from paper based record storage systems to time saving, cutting edge technology systems, DocuTAP began streamlining all clinic functions into an enveloping software solution. With such growth, DocuTAP found itself expanding in two separate directions; one which was continuing to deliver excellence in urgent care systems and the other, focusing on their newest innovations in the Practice Management realm. With both the complexities that both facets of healthcare, DocuTAP realized that they needed some direction creating a project management plan to provide smooth implementations in both areas, address newly created internal procedures, and manage some of the challenges that were new to them from the Practice Management side. Solution With two software installs rapidly approaching, Price Consulting Group swiftly assimilated its resources to provide implementation support including issue, risk, and change management. This support allowed DocuTAP to focus its attention on their client for training, new process flows, impending concerns, and billing functions. Eric McDonald, President and CEO of DocuTAP, was pleased that PCG’s integration to the project was completely seamless to their client. “PCG became part of the team the second they started working on our project. In addition, PCG created value for ongoing implementations by creating measurement plans, internal process flows, and communication channels for us to follow in our future implementations.” |
